trying to figure out what this is...

Back for a little more help to ease my mind. realized this had like a vac line attached to it but was broken off. can anyone tell me what this thing is/ does and if its important.

vacuum canister. it stores vacuum, i believe, not sure exactly how necessary it is.

get a pen with the metal ink cartridge. cut the barrel off at the tip and about an inch below. epoxy the narrow end into the broken port. the vacuum line should reattach with a rubber boot. clean the ink out, of course, beforehand, with some rubbing alcohol.

The tank is really only needed for when you use the HVAC controls.

It does connect to the control valve (blue) coming out the brake booster follow the brown vac line.This is on an 83 your cannister is at a different location but do the same job.Techno Duck is rigth.

This is a very very strong magnet sitting on top of the oil filter help keep all the microscopic debris out of your motor,had it for quiet a while it stick to the filter like glue & you got to really pull on it to remove it if you set it on a piece of steel forget it the darn thing act as if it's screw on there that how strong it is.

Thank's for the nice comment indio76 yes I use to keep the car very clean all around had it 26 years but sold it last summer ____the Grey spark plugs wires are Bosch Silicone (OE) 7mm, the yellow one from the Coil to the Distributor is an Accel 8mm wire that I fabricated myself .
