Can my slave cylinder be saved?
I am reinstalling the engine in the car and today I went to install the slave cylinder. It was extended quite far and I couldn't make the bolts enter the threads in the bell-housing.
I thought I would just empty it and depress it, as I'm flushing the system anyways. Unscrewed the bleeder valve all the way out, not a drop of fluid comes out. I then unscrew the hydraulic line to the slave and am greeted by a stream of fluid. The cylinder is softer now, but still hard to depress. Is this normal or should this cylinder be serviced? Also, when I removed the slave cylinder from the bell-housing 6 months ago the plunger shaft simply fell out. I thought this was normal, but is it?

there's a spring inside, which is why there's still tension when you try to push it in. you have to compress it a little to get the bolts started anyway.

Exactly how much force is needed? It was rock solid and didn't budge when me and my friend tried to force it on to the bell-housing.

If you extended the piston in the slave all the way out, you will/may have inside seal damage.
In the states, there is a rebuild kit for about $22 for the slave. Many vendors and NAPA type have them. John

Thanks John.
How far out is too far then? Should I be able to press the piston back in by pressing with my finger?
