For Those Of You Who Insist On Street Racing...
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/wesh/20011219/lo/1012917_1.html
As I've always stressed, Please Don't Race On The Streets! And please do all you can to discourage others from street racing. If you like to drive fast, do it with the Big Boys... at the race track under controlled conditions. Regards, David PENNYWEB/REALRIDE.COM RACING http://www.RealRide.com

I dont think street racing is bad if its under conrolled condision for example abandoned roads or coned off roads. But i do agree that flying down the street with people around you is wrong and I do not agree with street racing where you put people in danger such as this situation... Now the kid is going to think about how he killed his mom...sad

I saw this on the news and not that it really matters but the kid was driving an 87-89 Mustang GT (I could tell by the wheels). His mother was in a late 80s Cavelier.
Very sad. Could you imagine anything worse than killing your own mother? Could you imagine living with yourself the rest of your life?

There is no such thing as a truly abandoned anything. Would you randomly drive a bulldozer through an "abandoned" barn without even checking through it first? Well, in Street Racing, you can't control all the conditions, just like you'll never know if that road is truly abandoned. If you have access to it, than anybody else can as well. Unless of course it's in a gated property which you hold the key.
Coning off a street means nothing. How many times have you come across a coned off area on the street and stopped, then looked around for clear traffic, then proceeded? Well, what if somebody came up to your cones and did the same just as you were racing towards them? Most Open Road Races like the Silverstate Challenge also have people manning the intersections, and send out fliers to the locals weeks ahead of time. Even so, I personally would never participate in events like that. Rally's are held in private roads or on public trails with permits and the local authorities working in conjunction. There is simply no excuse for racing in any area where the general public has access to. I don't understand why it's such a struggle to get people to simply attend a sanctioned Track Event. Try it once and you'll know exactly what I mean! Regards, David PENNYWEB/REALRIDE.COM RACING http://www.RealRide.com

Please people: don't race on the streets.
You guys know how strongly I feel about this. As a matter of fact: if you want to get into 'racing' and want to try an autox (instead of this street racing stuff), let me know: I will PAY for your entry fee (provided it's around the $30 I pay here). It's simple: no gimmicks or tricks: you pay up front, and I'll pay you back once I see proof (web-site, email from sponsor of event...etc). Must be your first event. Now, I can't pay for everyone, but if you're one of the first to do this, I will pay for you. Any takers? -Z. Click for more:

a lot of people would like to race on tracks, but don't live very close to one and would have a hard time getting there..for example: i live in a hicktown and people road race here and these roads are bad(get air all the time along with severe potholes and snow,etc...) and most people that i talked to would go there but a track is a ways to go to rather than just taking a stroll down a road nearby. i would love to go to a track but i'm only 17 and i can't drive 100's of miles to get to the nearest one.
if any of you guys of any nearby x-crosses or road tracks near montrose, Pa(northeastern pa) please let me know. most times, we don't road race around here though..we play high speed cat and mouse which is just about as bad. kids around here are stupid...the roads we travel doing anywhere from 60-145 is not good..and we dont' have any interstates..they are all small regular laned roads with no shoulders sometimes. thankfully, we don't have a lot of people around here, b/c if we did, we would have a lot of accidents. |

You came across like a complete moron in your post.
Auto-x exists everywhere. Create one for yourself and get your friends to help pay for the lot. Contact the SCCA. Do something, the lack of other cars on the roadway does not a safe road make. I think that you will find that there is just as high a fatality rate on small relatively desolate roadways as there is on major highways when you consider the ratio of cars traveled with respect to the number of accidents. And that is exactly why the driving age should be raised!

In FL you get your permit at 15 and get your license at 16. The licensing test is EXTRAORDINARILY easy. TOO EASY. What I don't understand is why a 17 year old can't drive 100 miles to a track. I know plenty of people who have done the so. Don't use your age as an excuse to not go to a track, it's just laziness. Put it in perspective. What would you prefer; stay home race and kill your mom or drive an hour or two race and let keep mom alive? I just turned 19 and speak from experience when I say that there is no monumental change when you turn 18. If you can't afford to go to a track that is 2 hours away, that is your own fault.

how much would setting up an x-cross cost? i don't anything about organizing something like that.where would i set up something like that? i'ts not like we have room to do it. our town is only a 1-2 miles long and there is virtual no pavement that we could use so any help would be appreciated. also, my friends don't have money like that to spend on setting something up. we are the poorest county in PA and most of my friends are either on welfare , or are on a tight budget. in fact, most do not have cars.
i know the lack of cars does not make the road safe, but with the drivers that we have now, it would be extremely worse, if we had 2x as many people that travel it b/c as you said, the ratio is worse, and the people wouldn't be used to driving roads with so many on it. also, my parents won't let me travel long distances like that. my parents are weird like that so it's not my fault. |

We had a motorsport club for enthusiasts on my base but 2 yrs ago we had an auto-x setup. One off the guys invited his ricer mates. He was told to tell them the rules about driving around base and since we were on one of the runways, rules for driving on the taxiways. First prob we had was it seemed we double booked our end of the runway and grass area with the parachute club. One of the guys finished his run when 4 parachutists rained in!
The rice boys tho, were the icing on the cake. One was a vr4 that looked bump stopped, the other was a piece'o crap sub. Anywayz they decided to drag each other as they left across the taxiway. They cut off a cessna taxiing in for fuel. The pilot was irate, the tower was just as bad, and the base commander hasnt let us race since. the limit on the taxiways is 20kph. those guys broke 100 at least.

it all comes down to this: if you have respect and care about others, even people you've never met, you won't do anything to put their safety in jeopardy.
if deep down you don't really care about others (or yourself), you'll rationalize and say things like "there weren't many people on the street", etc. fthis can take a while to learn. this particular kid learned the hardest way of all. ![]() |
