Thumbs down Totaled or not totaled?

Guys, today has been a rough day and to cap my day off........

I was entering the freeway when I heard a odd sound coming from what I thought was my engine bay (which ended up being a wine from a bad wheel bearing). Anyway I pulled to the side of the on ramp, with the engine on I was about to get out and check under the hood. Before opening my door I looked back and I see a enormous semi truck OVER THE WHITE LINE, headed right for me!

I immediately revved up, dropped the clutch in 1st to avoid the oncoming semi truck.. I figured I was out of harms way until my car wouldnt move even though it was running fine.... I was stuck... Backing up and pulling forward I was finally free, little did I know my front end was damaged.

In the ruckus my front spoiler was ripped off, fog light cracked, turn signal cracked, bumper pushed in on passenger side, bat wing missing, under body engine cover damaged, cracked windshield somehow, airbags did not deploy. After making a police report I packed everything into my dads truck and I drove the 951 home.

I have to turn the wheel far to the left to stay straight now, looking under the car, its now leaking oil from the cooler, power steering fluid, front sway bar is dented pretty good, and the control arm has a ding.

What do you boys think the big bad insurance man will do to my poor 951? I have over $30,000 in records, receipts and modifications.

It is hard to tell from your description, but I take it the semi didn't hit you, but you drove into or onto something on the side of the ramp?
If that is the case, then, it doesn't look like any structural damage, then it should be easily repairable?

Probably something like $4k in damages so you might get away with not having it totaled if you can prove the worth of the car. I'm assuming you have full coverage? Otherwise you're out of luck.

Luckily I was able to get out of the semi truck's way. I ended up on top of the reflector and was stuck on it, thats what ripped the front spoiler off and apart. It really wouldnt take much at all to fix the car, what a pain in the butt.

I have full coverage, I think I have a pretty good argument to prove its worth fixing.

Here's a similar thread posted not all that long ago. Might have some useful info for you:

50% chance Insurance will total my red 951S: repair or sell?

Start looking for cars for sale with similar mods, and download the ads, when I got t-boned (totaled..chassis damage), I was able to prove to the insurance company that their value was to low, and they came up a few more grand. Problem with mods, MOST insurance companies don't pay for them.

Damage repair estimate was $5700 on an 89 S2 with 116,000 miles.

PM me for complete story on what I did to prove their value wrong.

Good Luck

Glad to hear you are okay. It sounds like the repairs are well within your skill set but will take a bit of time and effort. Good luck with the insurance co.

Even if they total it, you might consider fixing it and having it as a rebuilt title. Or not bothering with the title aspect and just keeping it as a salvage title. I did with my old Prelude, and I made out really, really well with that.

if any of you have more than stock into your cars you have to get extra insurance from your insurance company, or all they will give you is blue book.
I had to do this for a motor cycle I customized and they paid me for the extra stuff I added, improved, replaced, customized. (like custom paint, suspension, motor, wheels upgrades)
speak to your insurance agent.

^+1. Some insurance companies will give you extra for your receipts of stuff, but most will not unless you tell them ahead of time and insure that as part of the vehicle.

My insurance company Amica gave me lots of dollars when my Prelude got wrecked by another person because I had all the receipts.
