How to ship car seats?

I never shipped car seats before. What would be the best way to ship them? I mean do I build a wooden box or what? I would need to box them as a pair.

Last time I did it I separated the seats apart and just put them in one well packaged box. Shipped them GreyHound. Not too expensive. A wooden box isn't necessary.

I've shipped several sets of cars seats (mostly 914) but in all cases, I found a box large enough to fit the seats (69'd). Lawnmower shops have great boxes for this.

It has cost me about $50 to ship via Fedex ground. 944 seats are about the same size but a little heaver so it may be $60ish to ship. Fedex ground has good rates for heavy stuff and they will pick up at your house if you can't deliver to the depot - they charge about $13 to pickup.

Don't bother shipping overseas on big items like this - the cost is outragious.

Awesome. Im going to put some stuff up on ebay today. of that my 2 sets of seats. Was going to ask for 400 for the seats from my 87 NA. They are in pretty decent shape. No tears. Some wear on the drivers seat wher eyou slide in. There also 2 places where the stiching is letting up.

Then 600 for the seats in my 86 tubro. They are in awesome condition because they were re-leathered with italian leather. Feels so good to sit in. If I wasnt going with the track car/ street car/ club sport thing,... Id keep him.

You think those are good prices? Dont want to over price the seats. Want to sell them asap. Need the money and space. Maybe 500 for the italian leather?

Geez,.. I hate pricing items. I either feel like im asking to much or not enough. How much do you think a sunroof is decent shape is worth? Cant find anyone else selling one anywhere.

They are a VERY dark grey. Not black. But a dark grey. If im not mistaken,... 85.5 is considered a late car. So maybe yes they would? Maybe they will fit an early car, I dont know. Lets wait to see if someone else knows.

The Uhaul Mini wardrobe boxes hold one seat perfectly without having to take them apart. I shipped a pair of Sport seats using them, they cost about $8 each.

924,931,944, 911 and 928 seats all mount the same and look similar - the main difference is in the early design and late design of all of the seats - looks and styling are the only differences (1985 and down - 1985.5 and up and the different styles in different cars).

I am bringing up this old thread to see if anything has changed significantly in terms of vendors, best shipping practices and ways to properly ship seats, packing, wrapping, any new do's and don'ts etc for those that are shipping seats out in 2019 and plus and minus a few years

To ship your seats here is what I recommend/have done:

Go to Uhaul and purchase a box.
Purchase bubble wrap somewhere else.

Bubble wrap the seats and place one seat all the way down inside the box, then, flip the other seat and place into the box upside down.

About $150.00 or so to ship via UPS or FedEx (of course, rates have gone up).

Hope this helps.

I shipped seats by Greyhound once and it was easy and cheap, iirc about $50 for both seats. I had to drop them off at my local depot and the buyer had to collect from theirs. Didn’t have to pack them up or anything, they simply attached labels to them. You’ll have to check to see if they still offer that service, it was by far cheaper than any other method if you can drop-off/collect from at both ends.
