Rusty front rotors..no problem
While waiting for parts to install my new KONI front conversion on the struts I tackled a few cometic issues,,,easy to clean up your rotors if you dont have the ones with the coating on them...a power drill and a good wire wheel..about and hour each side..and really shined up the calipers too....

Hope you wore atleast a dust mask :).
Give them a coat of high temp paint if you want to keep them from rusting. |
Your rotors look great but I would recommend putting on a coat of paint on the rotor hats or they will be rusted in just a few months.
The factory spec is to paint with grey primer and then a light mist of silver. I did mine and it took about an hour to remove and paint - I reinstalled in the morning. I did this a couple of years ago and they look as good as new today. Here's some photos of my project: New Rotors after about 4 months had rusted hats: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279403124.jpg After painting the rotor hat: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279403171.jpg Made a paint shield out of a manila file folder: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279403198.jpg Installed: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279403311.jpg |
you'd better take care of those calipers (and rotor hats) or they will rust like a b*tch. the calipers are cad plated from the factory, and when you strip the cad plating, you open them up to unmitigated oxidation. i'd go with black caliper paint, because i like things understated. some prefer red. to each his own! the rotor hats look good painted, but i'm not that into making my car perfect... i'd rather go drive. vroom!

I started rebuilding my calipers one night this past week...wire wheeled the rust of the non-aluminum parts. I had rusty boogers for 3 days. +1 on dust mask.

The rusty buggers wont kill. Breathing the dust from your brake pads is a whole different problem.

eeewwwwww brake pad dust...sure hope you had asbestos free pads
