Please Help! Coolant/heater system failure!
 

Hi Guys,

I had an overheat situation in the Drive through of a taco bell (lots of idling). Steam everywhere no cooling happening.

I checked it out today expecting to see coolant leakage out of the front of the engine. To my surprise when the car got up to temp, the steam came from the rear of the engine. It's coming from a hose that originates at the firewall on the passenger side and travels to a port just on the drivers side at the back of the engine. I cant quite tell where it's supposed to be going.

Does anyone have a picture of the engine from the back?

What is this hose and where is it going? It looks like the nipple sheared off.

Has anyone had this happen?

What piece of metal is this attached to?

Can it please be inexpensive?:D

Looks like the hose that connects to the bottom of your heater control, the white plastic saucer shaped valve in your thrid picture. The valve is not expensive but is a little challenging to replace. Kinda tight working in there.

That looks like the heater control valve and the entire thing is plastic & replaceable. It's $17.50 at Pelican.

It's actually got a hose connected to the bottom and the top and also has a small vacuum line connected to it.

Question for you (or anybody). Can that be plugged up as a band-aid so i can drive the car in the meantime just without the heater or would blocking that line cause damage?

Nissan has one for about $20 that is all metal and does the same function. :)

u'd have to plug both sides. which means gettin in there and removing the valve and plugging both hoses.

blocking the line is what the valve does. heh

Looks as though the metal "nipple" as you call it is alright, just take the stub of hose off and replace the hose. It doesn't appear from you pictures that the valve has broken, just the hose from block to the heater valve. Tight fit is NOT the word for it, it's a knuckle scrapper. Check the valve to make sure the bottom inlet is intact before you go and buy a new one.

The hose is available from pelicanparts under the number 944-572-385-01-M101 at $5.25, the heater valve is part number 928-574-573-03-M53, and it's also at pelican for $17.50.
