951 brake caliper orientation

Hey gang - I'm visiting from the 911 page - I have a question for you.

Last year my mechanic upgraded the front brakes of my 1978 911 SC to those from a non-S 951. They're the black units with the raised letter. The brakes work well, but the pedal's a little spongier than I would like.

The bit of it is that the caliper on the 911 mounts at the front of the strut (ie back of the caliper faces towards the front if the car) where on the 951 it mounts on the back of the strut.

I am concerned about the orientation of the caliper. In my experience, the trailing edge of the pad should make contact with a spinning brake rotor first, which will draw the leading edge in...I believe the caliper in question accomplish this using pistons of different diameters.

There's an arrow cast into the calipers. I would assume that this arrow should point in the direction of wheels travel..my wrench apparantly thinks it should point up (which in my case is against the direction of the wheels travel).

So the question.....which way does the book say the arrow should point?...Please no "I would assume..." responses.

Thanks guys - may your water pumps bearing never squeek.

This is the front passenger side orientation......

In the pic you can see the arrow pointing in the direction of tire rotation..

You are right....
