Porsche Crest color restoration (Guards Red)

My 1983 944's paint was in perfect condition except for the hood and front fenders. The drivers side fender had a minor bump and the hood had a couple of good sized scratches same on the passengers fender. The PO had spray painted the bad spots with some kind of red that looked awful.

I repaired all the bad spots hit it with some primer, picked up a gallon of guards red enamel and sprayed everything in front of the doors.

It turned out beautifully... except it's red and the whole rest of the car is reddish orange... the reddish orange was always noticeable but now it's even more noticeable.

Before I prep and spray the rest of it... (those parts won't be quite as easy as the front was) I was wondering if anyone has found a product that will bring the original paint back to it's red color... or in other words get rid of the orange.

The balance of the paint on the car is perfect and I really hate to go through the effort of painting perfect paint...well perfect with the exception of the color.

Thanks in advance,

Robert

I've just finished painting my car recently. I noticed when we wet sanded and buffed out the coat it became a little more orange-red than before. I'm not sure exactly what type of paint you used (we used 2k urethane), but if you are going to wet sand and buff out the paint it very well might change color a little bit. You might check the old paint to see how much orange peal there is in it. If it has a lot it probably wasn't wet sanded and might just be faded from sitting in the sun. Do you know if this was the original paint or if someone repainted it. Do you know what type of paint they used? You can only put certain paints on top of other paints with out a sealer. Just some things to take into consideration.

your car has faded and the red has "oranged-out"...it'll never be the same until it is repainted..don't waste your time buying products to buff it out..because it wont..it'll be shiny if you buff it..but will never be the red..guards red..like the fresh painted area's...just learned all this at a paint shop..I just had my euro bumper painted guards red and in the right light you can really notice the difference....bumper is red....rest of car......red-orange....Sucks doesn't it.!!!!
