Horrible squeal?
My a/c is working great, lots of cold air, but a week or so ago, this started.
When I first turn it on, it makes a awful squealing noise. After turn it off and on a few times, it stops. Can anyone tell me why, and how to stop it? |

It was fine until we converted to 134. Is this normal, and why did it start ONLY after the conversion?

The compressor probably wasn't running until it was re-filled. There's a low-pressure switch to prevent the compressor from running when their isn't enough refrigerant in the system.
Without a load (or refrigerant), the compressor clutch is disengaged and the pulley just freewheels. Turn the A/C on and you put a load on the pulley - the compressor actually turns; if the belt is too loose, it'll squeal.

Porsche part number 999.192.206.50 (K5x1005). You can obtain this belt from just about any autoparts store (I broke one on the road and got it from autozone).

Or NAPA....mattdavis11 is an AC tech
read link-- Stupid AC question....... BTW, The belt should have about 1/2" play at the top stretch of the AC belt. If you tighten the belt too severly, you can put too much pressure on the lower crankshaft seal and your front crank seal will leak. GL John
