Sunroof Problems!!! HELP
Question--
I have an 87' 944 and one day my sunroof just stoped working. Now it only tilts up on one side and the side that doesnt work just makes terrible noises and bangs. Has this happened it anyone else and if so what part(s) do i need to fix it? Is it a motor?, a gear? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot.

Normally a gear
Normally the issue is that the plastic gear has snapped. You should be able to purchase a new gear from your local dealer or Performance products offers a replacement part. Used would be cheap, but could just fail a few months from now since it was "used" already.
You need to take the headliner down in the rear of the car to inspect the area that you are hearing the noise ... then you will see if it is the gear. Eric

The above post is right on the money. It will be the gear. But the reason these usually fail is due to having the cable travel too long. So your trying to run the cable past the arm lifting length. If you just replace the gear it will most likely just crack again eventually. You need to also check the motor side microswitches to insure that the lift height is correct.
