Konis in the mail...what else do I need?
I've got Koni sport adjustable inserts and rears for my Boge struts coming in the mail. I got the bumper stop things from porsche to replace my torn ones already. I'm going to be installing them myself and then going to get a 4-wheel allignment.
What other parts do I need to replace in the struts? I didn't see anything else that looks damaged but are any other parts in there mandatory? Any words of wisdom? Thanks! CD |
CD,
How are you going to deal with the springs? I have a new set of boge inserts and springs, but I'll probably let a mechanic do this tricky job. I guess with the old springs you can just keep them in the compressed position before putting them back in, but for me, I need the new springs to be compressed from scratch ... The inserts came with their own nut and base piece ... Good luck. E |
I'm just going to use the spring compressors (the big threaded rod type) to tighten them down unilaterally if I end up getting stiffer springs. I'm actually interested in staying within the 'stock' autox classes so i'm leaning away from springs etc. I was quoted $200 to rebuild my struts so I think i'll do it myself (very carefully)
Do you know what a 'triangulated' strut tower brace is? The autocross rules I found online said that a stock class car could have a non-triangulated brace. I'm glad to hear that the inserts came with hardware. |
Triangleated means it is attached in 3 locations. usually they attach to the struts tops and to the firewall. SCCA will allow only 2 locations, the strut tops.

Be very carefull with those threaded-rod type spring compressors. They usualy come with small u-bolts with wing nuts as safety clamps. USE THEM. There's an incredable amount of energy stored in a compressed auto spring, and those threaded-rod spring compressors like to slip off and go shooting across the room. (usually going right through anything in their path, including people)
Good luck Mike |
