Hi all,

New to the forum and my 87 944T. Got a problem. It has been running great for the last year. Has 44K and is like new.
The problem started as a fuel pump problem I thought. It would crank over start and then just shut down as though out of fuel. Towed it home and let it sit overnight. The next morning it started and sat there idling
Can you folks let me know what all could be making this happen(from the fuel pump forward). I'm OK at R&R. Not a diagnostician. Figure I should replace as many parts as possible instead of paying for a mechanic's bill(if this is a reasonable assumption).

Thanks a lot.

i had a similar problem. car would sometimes start, sometimes not. when it did start, it could idle for 4-5 minutes, then just die. no sputter.

turned out to be loose lead on the ignition coil.

if it is the fuel pump, i would imagine it would sputter before dying since it would be slowly losing fuel pressure.

Welcome to the forum.

I would start with the DME ( fuel pump relay ). Clark's garage has a great write up on checking it.

Or the DME sensor.
