I'm considering putting the 3-M film on the front and mirror surfaces to releive the chore of "stonechip" refurbishing, and have just seen an ad in Excellence for another company called Stongard, who it appears competes with 3-M, but they like 3-M want this stuff to be installed by a franchisee. I called a local detailer who does this for 3-M and he quoted $900+ for the 87'951,

Thanks, I was talking about the stuff you DON'T get from the factory, like the front valance, piece between the hood and valance, mirror backs etc, not the side and fender/rocker factory film. It's available through Porsche dealers, but is done by other locals for them. The local Porsche dealer told me $600+ for the front of a Boxster

You can now purchase yourself
I believe you can now purchase it yourself.
Check your local autoparts stores. The larger chains are more likely to have the 3m product now. Anyway I would purchae it myself and put it on. It can be a chore to get it in the correct position. I had my wifes Passat done and my Fathers Lexus. It has kept the front end looking perfect. A note. They used a coating of alcohol (rubbin not absolute ![]() Eric.

You can buy the 3M protective film here:
http://www.triumphnet.com/st/acc/3m/index.htm I really should get some of that for my bike, at least to protect the lower fairing directly behind the front wheel... |
