stereo fader thing?
 

i just took out one of my rear speakers and before i put the new one in i wanna make sure i know what's going on with the connection b/c in previous posts someone said that the rears didn't have their own seperate channel or something like that and that their is some kind of fader thing that people say that they disconnect and use the one on their new deck..what's the story?

PO had disconnected the factory fader control on mine, Use the one in your deck. The rear speakers wire in the same as any others. Im not sure where the factory fader was connected to, all i know is that mine is cut and just sits there. It does always seem to raise questions as to why its there, and what Porsche was thinking...

Yes... just disconect and bypass the old fader. The electronic one in your deck will be 100 times better (the old ones collected dust and worked poorly).

They were put in originally because the stock radios did not have a fader. It would seem that enigneering inertia took over and left the knob there. I just disconnected the wires from it and spliced them together.

A friend of mine put a "shady brake light" switch to prevent tailgaters in his probe. He just ran a wire and tapped into the line to brakelights and put a switch in parallel with the brake pedal I was thinking about putting one in and using the area where that fader thing is. Also if anyone decideds to use nitrous that would be a cool place to put the switch to turn the system on.

I would think wiring a switch into the reverse lights would work better for tailgaters. :)

how do i bypass the fader? i noticed that there is a wire that runs from where the head unit would be, back through the console (can see it running near shifter). is that the wire for it? do I just not use that wire?

also, why are the 4 channels spliced into a 2 channel plug?
