91 s2 Oil Pressure

Not sure whether i should worry about this or not. Have had my car for 3 years and has been daily driver for past 10 months. Over the last couple of days have noticed that once car has been driven for arounfd 15 mins oil pressure at idle and at speed is lower than usual.

Previously would sit at 2 and a half at idle and 4 and half at normal driving. Now once driven for 15 mins sit just above 2 at idle and just above 4 at normal driving.

Is this normal or should i drop into my local Porsche mechanic. Car has 76,000 miles on it.

Could just be a corroded ground or bad connection somewhere. Does the reading change when you turn stuff on and off, like the headlights? I have noticed mine drops a little like that as the oil nears the end of its life. It's still a good high pressure. I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse.

Thanks. Thought it was probably nothing to worry about now you mention it might be due to wipers, heater and lights all going at once. Will see if it changes if it ever stops raining here.

Mine randomly started to drop ~0.5 bar whenever I turned the parking lights on. Kind of weird that it never moved when anything else was switched on or off, like headlights, blower, or radiator fans. I checked all the grounds and connections and it didn't help. I eventually just ran a dedicated ground and 12v supply to it along with an oil temp guage I was installing and the problem went away.

You have good oil pressure. When it drops to <1 bar at idle and <3 cruising, then you should stop driving the car.

Last month, the S2, with 230k miles, had developed a low oil pressure condition at 0.5 bar at idle and just 2.5 bars at speed. My son immediately parked the car and we immediately pulled the OPRV. The OPRV was obviusly stuck open. The piston movement was not smooth and it keeps getting stuck in a spot leaving it partially open. With a 2000 grit sandpaper, disassembled the OPRV, polished the piston and the bore, clean the parts, put new o-rings and put everything back together. Oil pressure was back to normal 2 bars at idle and 4.5 bars at speed. With 230k miles, it still puts out about 180 RWHP at the dyno. 944s are tough with proper maintenance.

Follow the cam chain, chain tensioner pad and belt maintenance intervals and it should last a long time.

You should be able to see that and more with proper care !
