944 wheel offset
Anyone know if the 87 phone dial wheels will work properly on an 83 944? Different offsets I believe due to the ABS on the newer cars. Looking at the purchase of some with snow tires on them.

The offset is different, but those wheels WILL work, as long as they are 7" wide ones, and you don't try to squeeze fat tires on them (which would be really bad in the snow anyway). They may look a little funny, but they won't hit anything.
The late wheels on an early car will sit about 1" further in on each side. it'll narrow your track width by 2" total. From the back, it looks kind of funny because the wheels do not fill out the wheel wells at all. A set of 1" spacers will fix this, and make them look proper. Bottom line, if you are getting a really screamin' deal on them, you might want to pich them up. if not, find some with the proper offset. I picked up a set of late phone dials for my early car before i knew there were 2 different offsets. I actually ran them on my car for a few weeks while i refinished my early offset cookie cutters. Thanks guys.
I might be able to get them for $200... maybe That is 4 wheels and snows that are 1/2 used. I looked at the chart and the difference is a little over an inch a side... yikes. Oh the size is 195 width. What do you think? Eric
