Cylinder head problem !

Hi i am just rebuilding my 944 since the t belt broke -.- i was all good untin i put the cam housing on !
i started Screwing the cam housing bolt (the ones inside the housing ) and then i saw terror ..... one of the cylinder head holes (where you screws in ur bolt ) Chopped up inside so i have no more fillets to hold my bolt down ?

the bolt is a 8mm allen head all probly put a 9mm 6 side'd normal bolt in there with the same tap

idea ?
tap 9mm with a similar bolt ?
Leave it Empty ?

Ur idea ?

thnx matt .. bad day is what i got !

you saw terrror? and fillets? and you were able to see this, even though the cam tower was on top of it all?

my suggestion is that you drill out the ruined hole and time-sert it. then, use the proper allen head bolt.

+1 on John's information

The Timesert site has videos demonstrating use
++ TIME-SERT Thread Repair Kits ++ thread repair kits for stripped threads damaged thread repair kits stripping threads head bolt stripped, engine block stripped how to repair stripped threads.

These may help clear up any translation confusion

matty, you really need to put your location in your information and your year/model of 944 in your signature.

Matty, you do not go oversize with either method for your 1986 944. Fix the hole to accept the OEM pan head screw M8 X 35.

You need an 8mm (X1.25) Time Sert repair kit or if not available in Canada, the HeliCoil style Thread repair kit 8 X 1.25mm. The Time Sert kit is the best to use and strongest.

Here is a video on the Time Sert installation instructions.

i found the time sert at canadian tire local from my area . I drilled out the old threading and was thinking if i had to use the grove maker bit that they use in the video. Probly will but a local mecanic told me it would be ok even if i didnt use it i would just buff some of the Helicoil to make it a nice finish . What would you guys say ? its a 22 mm deep hole and the helicoil is about half of that !
