Manual rack to power steering
Ok an update with a question.
I have been talking to the Owner of Griffith Techinical Products (in this months Excellence) about my steering rack issues. He says the following. "Can you replace a manual-rack with a power -steering rack and run the rack without power assist?* Yes. Should you make any modifications to the power-steering rack to assure it will not misfunction?* Yes. Is there* a difference in steering ratio between a power vs. manual rack?* Yes. * What parts do you need to convert the car from a manual-rack to a non-functional power-steering rack? 1) Set of power steering rack tie rod assemblies & boots 2) Steering shaft with couplers. 3) Passenger side rack mount rubber bushing." I would like to know if anyone has done this and if the steering shaft change could be avoided. Anyone know what the difference is. I have also asked Griffith but wanted to see if anyone here has done this. Seems I have a very rare and expensive rack. Darn. Thanks Eric * ![]()

I don't have any answers for you, but I have the tie rods off an '84 rack if you want them. swon@uiuc.edu.

Hey Semper Fi
My Cousin Brian Lynch always signs that way. Marine also. Or he was. He is now out. Well I should be picking up the assemblies tomorrow along with steering rod and coupler for $60. So if I need another set I will give you a shout. Thanks! Eric by the way ... Thanks for your service to our country.
