 How to clean the engine Now that the head is off the car,...whats the safest way to clean the engine area,...I want to presure clean the engine after I cover up all the pistons,.. is this a good or bad idea.    Thanks  FM |

 If the head is off washing it will put water in the Oil passages/pan.  I would wait till you put the head back on , spark plug wires in, and all vaccum lines hooked up.  Then just cover up the Throttle body with a trash bag and some tape.   You can always use some Carb or brake cleaner if you need to the deck before that... |

 put head and cam back on and pressure wash , otherwise seal the deck with duct tape or masking tape and use brakeleen and a wire brush, safest and most controlled way, also, tape up any open water, air, and oil ports. |

 When I did mine, I stuffed rags in each cylinder and then taped the deck of the block completely with aluminum tape. I would not "pressure wash" with high pressure.....apply a good degreaser, let it soak for a while, brush wherever possible, and then rinse at low pressure to keep water from getting into places it shouldn't. |
