Koni struts on early NA

I have a line on some Turbo Koni yellow adjustable struts for a nice price. From all I have read it seems they will not fit my 83 without using the spindles , hubs, arms , etc. from the Turbo. I can actually get all of this also but I also thought that this would change the offset of my OEM wheels and possibly mess up the camber and generally be more hassle .

I know I could just add a Koni insert to my Sach strut housing , but for the price I am getting the entire Koni strut for I was hoping there was some way to make these fit. Still looking for a rear M030 sway too.

The 86 turbo is also the early offset so there would be no change to the offset.

the reason the late struts will not fit are that the mounting points for the strut is diferent . the early cars have a 1 mm fatter spindle and the 2 holes that bolt are also 4mm farther apart . but i did get a nice par of koni's off a 86 and did do alittle fab work to get them on the 84 i have . other than that there the same . i milled one mm off the spindle and longgated the lower mounting hole and the tacked a washer on were the new hole is . its been loaned out to 5 people for track uses and is still all good .

If you use the spindles from an '86 you will need to have a machine shop drill it to provide access for the '83s mechanical speedometer cable in the left (driver's) side front wheel. No big deal.

If you follow through with the 86 951 conversion, guess what else you get?

Thanks everyone for the background. So if I were to use the 86 spindles and they are fatter, is the O.D. of the bearing the same from early to late ? Meaning could I use my 83 rotor and hub ? Actually , I guess not as it was mentioned that it had to be machined down. Sounds like I need it all to be a straight bolt-on, unless I want to do machining and welding.

As to going the entire turbo conversion route (lol) , I already have a twin turbo car and this NA hopefully will make me into a better driver in the corners as I cannot make it up with speed on the straights.

the early mounting point were the lower part of the strut were it bolts to the spindle is fatter than the late cars . the offset change was do to the ABS brakes so the rotors will not work from early to late . there are no parts that you can use from the late cars and just bolt on the early cars unless you change the hole suspension over . if your just looking for better braking with out changing the hole thing over you cound do what i did with my 948 aka 944 V8 . for 750 bucks get the wilwood front calipers from rennbay . they bolt right up and you will get the same braking as the 951 turbo cars brakes . i'm one of the people that is not a fan of the later 944 suspension . i don't like abs for racing i don't like the cost of the control arm and i don't like that you just can't get a set of fatter wheels for a 911 and bolt them right up and keep the same track the car has . on the 948 i run 15x10 fuch wheels in the rear and 15x8's front off a 930 . if you gusset the cheap early control arms they become stronger than the late ones for less then 1/2 the price .

Yep, I am thinking for the price I may get them anyway and use for trade bait if I don't use them. I really just wanted the adjustable struts as I feel I want to keep the steel arms as well after they are beefed up. Thanks again, I learn more each time as I have more background in Audi's than Porsche's.
