Goodbye 944

Hey Guyz. My clutch started chattering last week for the last time. I'm not going to replace it anymore, I'm just going to donate it, and use the tax deduction. Allow me to tell you a brief history of my love-hate relationship with my 944 (mostly love, though). I'm 29 years old now, and I bought the car on my 20th birthday. Since then, here are the things that I have fixed.

2 clutches
1 transmission
2 valve jobs (because the belt snapped both times, and bent all the valves)
2 water pumps (along with belts)
1 header
1 set motor-mounts
1 control arm
1 radiator
1 oil cooler

I bought it with 86k miles on it for $7200, and now it has 211k on it. I learned the hard way about the car's limitations, but after I learned to drive it smoothly, our relationship just got better. She took me through four years of commuting to college in San Francisco (from San Jose, which is about an hour's drive) without a problem. There were good times, and there were bad. There was even a time where I wanted to sell her and buy a GSR (I'm glad I didn't). I've gotten laid in the car 4 times. She's competed in drag races and won, kicked ass on freeway races (only defeated by an NSX once), and won what my friends and I called the Santa Cruz Run (each put $20 into a pot, and the first one to Santa Cruz from San Jose wins) which meant a freeway race through the mountains at 6:30am, when the highway patrol was changing shifts. Yes, lots of memories. It will be hard for me to let go, but I'm ready to move on (to a 964 Turbo!). I commend all of you, who took the plunge and committed yourselves to a higher standard(and not a Civic or Integra)--to buy a Porsche. There is no substitute. Drive on

Can I guess that the flat hatchback area made for a good spot (with the back seat folded flat, that is)?

If that were the case, we could say that you were probably "mooning the moon", eh?

haha, no. The passenger seat is a tight fit for two people (one medium and one petite) with the seat all the way back and relined, but it works. Those folks in the cars behind us at the drive-in got more than what they paid for, though! Even though I told my dates that "the window's tinted, they can't see a thing", it was a very light tint all-around, and you could still see through it.

Good to hear you're staying Porsche.

But, hey, with so much history there, why not just keep it? I presume it's been long paid for and insurance shouldn't be too harsh on a secondary car? If you don't have extra garage space, just cover it up and take it for a spin every other weekend for good time's sake.

I'm considering that. We'll see if it'll be hard, cuz my townhome complex has a homeowner's association that I might have to deal with. Screw em if I do keep it. It makes them look better, having a Porsche in the lot.

And it's only 6k for the Speedforce Supercharger kit!

find somwhere to put it, i've got a 914 at home while i'm at school(it helps to have a hangar to keep it in), you'll never forgive yourself, one day you'll be the ole man and point to car that you got laid in 4 times, jr will have no idea what the hell you're talking about until about 15, just a thought
