Idk, dumb question?

I dont have AC in my car. The condencer is out, so why cant i just take out the compressor, and use a belt for a non-AC car?

Sorry if this is obvious, but I'm just wondering

You need an a/c delete bracket. This is because the tensioner for the belt attaches to the a/c compressor which is free to pivot on the bracket. The a/c delete bracket moves the alternator to where the a/c compressor usually is, allowing you to attach the tensioner to the alternator.

The lower tab you see on the alternator is where the tensioner attaches.

Awesome. Short, sweet and makes perfect sence. Thank you! Can i use a non- AC belt ?
Where did you get yours from? I know Linsey racing makes one, but isnt it like $150?

If you get the a/c delete bracket, you need belt 5PK-736 for your early car. Later cars need a 6-rib belt, i use 6PK-720.

LR does make a billet bracket. The bracket i have is from CEP. They all do the same thing, just minor design differences. A guy on eBay sells some cheaper ones but cosmetically they are not the best looking.. that may or may not mean anything to you.

BTW, there is a factory a/c bracket available also. Its main advantage is that it maintains the same dimensions as the original compressor / alt mounting bracket so the forward engine hoist ring stays in the same spot. The billet brackets move the hoist ring lower which makes it unusable as a lifting point, so you need to add a dozen or so washers to make up for the length. This is not really a huge deal but something to be aware of.
