Oil lines
I have an issue with the oil lines going to the oil cooler in my S2.
The PS pump pulley is cutting into one line. I have pics below. You can see a line of oil on the PS belt. So, I have some other lines and am getting new seals for the lines. My guess is either the lies are flexing into the PS pulley or the engine is rocking enough to contact the oi line. I have new engine mounts (1-2 years old). Has anyone else seen this issue and have a guess as to the best fix? I was thinking of using a zip-tie to keep the lines away from the PS pulley and also install a new PS belt. Could the current belt just have stretched enough to cause this? View from the right front wheel well ![]() View from the left of the PS pump ![]() Thanks for any help...

It definitely doesn't look right that the pully would be touching that hose. Are you sure that wasn't happening before you changed the mounts?
Due the direction of rotation of the engine and the torque it does twist to the right side of the engine bay which is your power steering / oil line side My S2 had very worn mounts a couple of years ago to the point that under acceleration the engine would twist to the right hand side enough for the exhaust manifold to touch the steering column shaft (its a Right Hand Drive car) - probably an inch of movement. With the new mounts it has almost no lateral movement. If you were to wrap some tape around the point it was rubbing then take it for a hard drive you would see marks on the tape if it is still happening now or if it was an old issue you have already fixed. Definitely sort it before you throw the new lines on |

Don't know because there were several things that were done once I bought the car. But I have noticed the cut is deeper than before.
I emailed a friend in the p-club here that races an S2. He said the lines should be zip tied to keep the lines up higher and out of the way. I will tape them up then zip tie them. I have the last auto-x of the season on Sunday. I'll check Mon to see how my "fix" worked. He said replacing the lines is a b*tch - remove the exhaust manifold etc. just to get to the lines. Thanks for the reply.

Greg,
Let us know how it goes over the weekend. It seems to me if the belt had stretched that much, it would be squealing. I tend to think the motor is moving enough to cause the rub. Were the motor mounts OEM ? From what I read, aftermarket ones only last a couple years. I live within an hour, if you need any help let me know. Bruce

Bruce,
Mounts are OEM. Don't know how old the belt is so I was just wondering... If the belt stretched and was tightened, maybe more then once. Dunno, just guessing really. I'll post back my finding on Monday after I tape and zip tie the lines. If you are near Six Flags you should check out the p-club auto-x on Sunday...

Gates lists 7375 as the number for this belt. That belt is 38 1/8". In the Gates system, every five numbers lengthens or shortens the belt by 1/2". So 7370 would be 37 5/8", 7365 would be 37 1/8". For longer belts, go the other way: 7380 is 38 5/8", etc. There should be plenty of adjustment in the turnbuckle. Just choose a belt to give you at least 1/2" of clearance.

This is the exact problem the one I just bought had. The previous owner stopped driving it due to an oil leak. Turns out it was this hose, I am searching for the same answers. The hose has been replaced by the PO but it is still awfully close.

Rusty,
Tonight I zip tied the lines to pull them up and, hopefully, out of the way. Still looking for a better place for the zip tie but it should do for now. I'll know more after an oil change and the auto-x. The used lines I bought are the wrong ones so I am looking for some other used ones.
