951 idle issue...
 

its not a surging or hunting idle.. and it never falls below normal. idles 95% of the time spot on. however the other 5% it would just creep up and stay steady at about 2k.. sometimes as high as 3k.

second concern was sometimes under normal driving conditions the rpms will stay steady between shifts.. say im at 3.5k in second gear. while shifting to 3rd it will stay steady at that 3.5k. and if i drop straight to neutral its a bit sluggish coming down.

a week ago i *properly* seafoamed the intake and fuel system. thoroughly cleaned the throttle body. checked for any vacuum leaks and come up empty. compression is solid at 150 across the board. no coolant leaks. no air leaks. throttle cable is adjusted. and verified proper operation of the throttle plate.

today. I reset the idle. disabling the idle stabilizer and what not. currently have the idle at just under 1k. went out for a bit of a drive and the idle never creeped up on me and stayed rock solid while waiting at lights.. but was still a bit sluggish to come down between shifts.

anything specific i should be looking at that might remedy this situation or is this normal for these cars??

I had that problem one night. The hose clamp for the intake was loose and caught up the spring mechanism for the TB. I pushed the spring assembly down to where it was normally and it was fine.

saw that in a few searches. but thats not it. my spring is free and clear last time i checked.

up for any more ideas


...went out for another drive and the surge or creep rather seems to be corrected. its just a matter of the rpm's falling now...

play with the tb. when you move it does it snap back immediately? Maybe you just have a weak spring.

well from what i can see it seems to snap right back into position.. and it makes the minor click when closing and opening according to the manual. but I'll look into that "weak" spring and probably just replace it to rule it out..

another thing i forgot to mention was that its mainly underload and between shifts.. just reving in neutral everything seems normal besides the revs slowing down under 2k thru idle.


*edit* creep came back.. not as severe this time but still there..

any updates?

Check TPS Sensor...
 

Could be the TB TPS Sensor and O2 Sensor..
Either Both could cause this hunting problem...
