Can you prevent street tires from chunking by shaving
I did my first 3 DE events last year with my Bridgestone RE730 streets. I have noticed what may appear to be the beginning of chunking on the outer edge of the tread. By the way, what is chunking? Is it when a chunk of the tread chunks off because of the severe abuse to the street tire? I was windering if shaving a street tire will prevent it from chunking. If so how much tread should remain after shaving and how long will the street tire last if its dedicated for DE. My 86 951 has fuchs with the 730's on them, and I just picked up a decent set of phone dials from another 86 951 with brand new P7000 Sports mounted on them. I was thinking of using the fuchs and 730's just for the track. I picked up a set of Victoracers that had 4 track days but if the 730's will last a while without having to worry about chunking, then I probably will learn more on the street tires.

My 730's chunked horribly in one track day. Only tires I've ever hated. My snow tires are much quieter than than my 730's. AFIK you can't shave tires after they've been used - wrecks the blades.
