Early 85 Heater Core replacement

I need to replace the Heater Core - has anyone done this ?

Can it be done without removing the dashboard ?

I replaced the core on a 924 without air and didn't have to remove the dash. On my '84 944 I changed the hoses and it was an example of no thinking ahead by the engineers. I had cuts, bruses, contusions and invented new ways of turning the air blue. I know of no easy way to remove this item short of dismantling the dash.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I've never had to replace the heater core before, but removing the dash isn't so difficult.
