Engine Swap

So this plan is kind of a little far off in the future, but id like to start thinking about it now. I have an '87 924S, and ive had alot of fun with it, but id also like more power. The engine has too many miles for me to put a turbo on, and I was really considering an engine swap. I know the LS1 is a popular engine to drop in the 944 and 924, but are there any other good options? Any one who has done a swap before? Also what all would be entailed with a swap, parts wise that is? Thanks in advance!

the 398lbs 944 8v motors are over weight and offer little power at 150hp from a 2.5L . i own 7 944 's right now most of them are race only cars . one of them has an LS7 motor in it and i like it so much i'm building an other one with a LT1 motor . there are a hell of allot of places that sell the kits for the chevy motor swaps . i my self opted to build my own parts becouse thats were the fun part of the swap comes into play . for the total cost of rebuilding a 2.5 944 motor you can spend the same amount of money and end up with a car that will give you 3 times the HP and tork and 100 times more fun to drive . my 1st swap only added 53 lbs more to the cars weight . the replacement parts cost for a GM motor is less than 1/2 of what the same parts cost for a porsche motor . like a clutch for the chevy is about 300 dollars to the 944's clutch is about 800 dollars . so say the stock 944 8v trans is to weak to hold the V8 power that is not true or you have to get turbo brakes . get the wilwood front cal's and it will be fine . i have to keep the stock 15 inch wheels to race my 948 in the class i race in and it has good brakes . do the swap and like me you say now why did'nt porsche build this car with a V8 motor . it takes it from a fun car to drive to a REAL fun car to drive .
