hood insulation for 944? replace? and sunroof...

this is so minor but...

the hood insulation (the stuff stuck under the hood when you flip it up) is kind of old and i was wondering if anyone has ever replaced this stuff in their 944?

if it's gonna cost more than $50, forget it. it's so cosmetic in the first place.

also, my sunroof is acting up. i am not sure if it's the motor or the relay or the switch or whatever... but it won't release at all. has anyone ever had this happen where the sunroof WON'T come out of the car?

how did you fix it? the haynes isn't too specific about this, and noody i know has ever encountered a really fidgety sunroof like mine.

thanks!

obin

I wouldn't call the hood insullation cosmetic, my S2 doesn't have any insullation and my hood starts steaming when it rains. I'm trying to get some for it.

oops, i meant that the problems with mine are cosmetic. there's a few "chunks" missing and i thought that if it was easy and cheap to do it... i'll just replace the whole thing.

yeah, my 924 doesn't have hood insulation and i can tell the difference in noise.

Underhood insulation:

I used a product available at a number of DIY type stores (Home Despot, Lowes). It is a insulating blanket which resembles a aluminized plastic bubblewrap. I scraped the old crap off as best I could (wouldn't come completelu clean, but that's alright). I used contact cement and installed the aluminized bubblewrap material. That was three years ago. It hasn't failed yet and looks good.

Cut it to shape before installation.

Cool Bought mine at Pelican Parts!

I just got mine the last few days and I'm having my Auto Upholstery/Detailing guys install it with everything else they're doing for me.

The left half cost $57.10 and the right half costs $52.70.

All part of my restoration project for my 1986 944 I recently bought.

Sunroof problems, too.

Mine doesn't work either but it's on my wish list.

The guy I bought it from told me it doesn't work and is set tight and if I mess with it, there's a chance it'll be hard to put back in place. Or at the very least, it might lose its ability to prevent leaks when it rains.

So, I won't mess with it till I'm ready for a permanent fix. Good luck with yours!

Hi. sometimes if your having trouble removing your sunroof, you can try turning the manual knob (which is located under the carpet in the left trunk area above the left wheel). This worked for me when i had some troubles recently.
