Man this car is sick....
so my battery is draining slowly....dies in about 2 days, i hooked up a meter to both the terminals in series and without the car on i get the 12.5 vdc and then when i change it to resistance its at 70 i think, am i suppose to put it on the 200 2000 20k 200k 2000k? also does anyone know of or have a saratoga top for sale electric model....thanks

Use the current function if your meter has one and hook it in line between the battery and either the positive or the negative wire, and start pulling fuses until you narrow down what is drawing too much current. I don't know what the parasitic draw should be on these cars, but it shouldn't be more than 50 mA or so (wild guess). It may just be something stupid like the glovebox lamp.

yeah i did that and it didn't change anything it still stayed at about 70 it may have gone down to like 68 but thats it

I think your draw should be less than 20ma, Like Honda said, use the amp or Mamp setting on your meter. Take one of the cables off and pass the current through the meter. Don't turn on the key or even open the door with it hooked up because most meters have internal fuses that will blow if the load is exceeded. Pull each fuse and relay one at a time, if there's no drop in the amperage disconnect the alternator. There are diodes in the rectifier part of the alternator that could be shorted to ground. Most relays draw about 150ma. Look at aftermarket components first like amps or stereo. Also obvious things like Honda said, glove box light or trunk light. Another trick if you're not sure on your meter readings is to put a 12v test light between the ground cable and the ground terminal of the battery, if there is a sizable draw the bulb will light up, keep disconnecting things until it goes out...

you had the wrong setting while you checked it. as the others said use the (A) setting for amperage check.

Some meters have a higher setting like 10A. If you have that available, start with it and work your way down to smaller ranges if needed. It's important that you pass the current from the battery through the meter, not testing parallel to the battery like you would for measuring voltage. The test light is a good idea also...hadn't thought of that one.

yeah the only setting for current is 10a on my meter so i will check tommorrow and see what happens if it doesn't change any i will use the test light
