Is it possible to drive a 944 up on ramps?

Im really nervous about these jackstands...First I dont know how to use them with this car correctly and the ratio between CAR and jackstands is scary as is...please refer to my other post please, before I kill my self!

No you can't drive up, but you can jack the car up and slide them under, this works very well. We did it when we did the clutch job on my 944. Face the low end FORWARD on the fronts and the low end BACKWARDS on the back...

I don't think the front spoiler will clear the ramps. I always use stands. Use the frame rails.

Thumbs up

i use the "rhino ramps and the front spoiler doesn't scrape. if th front of the car scrapes, put some basic pieces of wood right in front of the ramp and that extra inch of clearance will greatly assist you. if the rhino ramps skid forward, hold them in place by getting either cinder blocks, or having someone stabilize them with a big piece of wood.

i usually stick the ramps right in fromt of the tires with the steering aimed dead ahead. have a person sight it out for you so that there are no problems. might take two attempts, but i know it works because i've done it before.

good luck!

I did not look at your other posts, but what end do you want in the air? You can drive onto ramps with the 944 if it is the rear. As far as the jack stands. I normally put the stand under the front jack pad and one under the rear. I use the jack to hold the center and lower the car slightly onto the jack stands. So you have the jack and jacks stand holding the car. This is is good since the jack stands can not compensate for movement, yet the jack with wheels on it can. If the car were to move and fall off the jack stands.. most likely the jack would move with the car and give me a seccond to get out.

As a final back up I then use a 3rd jack some where under the car, near to where I am working in case some thing happens. This jack needs to be placed some where you will not kick it, but also in a location that will not just crush in if some thing were to happen with the other three items holding the car. I normally use the engine hounting rail or suspension. Yes I know it could damage these if the car were to fall... but it would give me extra time to get out and I would rather make a scratch or some thing on the car than to be squashed. Oh and this stand is not completely engaged (so it can remain upright if the others tip.. thus helping with movement as noted with rolling jack above), it is just there in case. I have never had an issue. The low ramps will also work and normally fit under the front spoiler... as one other poster noted.

Does this make me parinoid? ..... Nahh just safe.
Oh anyone that ever gets under a car does it at their own risk. Never rely on ramps only. I have heard of these failing and ..... was unfortunate for the owner of the car. Always have a back up to the primary holder of the car. ALWAYS.

I use ramps al the time with my lowered 951.
I put a 1.5 foot length of 2x6 in front of the ramp and then drive up and onto the ramps.
Just clears.

You should have no problem.

I use ramps all the time for the front and back all you have to do in the front is put a good size piece of wood down so the front end clears it. Right now I have my car up on the jack stands because I'm doing the cylinder head and I got the jack stands from my friend to use with his jack lol. Well it can be done I do it all the time without hurting the front spoiler on the 951.

Guys, you can buy the blue ramps and ramp extensions from Walmart. The ramp extensions are made to hook on to the ramps to enable cars like ours to drive up on to the ramps without damaging the front spoiler, just like puting wood (2X6) infront of the ramps to allow the spoiler to clear the ramps. The hooks or dowels lock securely to the ramps and will not move away from the ramps if you accidently come down off the ramps too fast.

Is there any way to lifht the rear end of the car from behind or do you have to lift it from the side. I know you can't lift it from the tranny but are the any other places that would be safe.

Im trying get under the front of the car so I can get to the coolant temp switch. Also, I want to inspect the under body of the car for rust and oil leaks. Forgive me for jumping the gun but I just wanted to know how to pick the car up in different ways. I read on my jackstands that I should only lift half the car at a time?

Ditto. I bought a set of Rhino Ramps also, at Wal-mart, for about $30. They are the best set of ramps I've ever used. I had metal ones before, and they always moved, and they scared the ***** out of me.

The Rhino Ramps state that they are slanted at a 17 degree angle, and are especially designed so that low (i.e. sports cars like ours) vehicles can still ride up on them.

I haven't yet tried driving my S2 up on them (however, I will be doing an oil change soon), but I don't anticipate a problem. With every car that I've ever tried putting on the Rhino Ramps, I've never had a problem (i.e. my Eibach-lowered Audi, our previously-owned Subey 2.5 RS with a low front spoiler, and my previously-owned 1973 914 2.0).

If you are in the market to buy ramps, or hate the ones that you have now, I highly recommend buying the Rhino Ramps.

Jim

I must be insane

I never have used ramps for the sole reason of messing something up. When I dont feel like setting my brothers lift up I usually jack one side of the car up shove some jack stands under it. Then go to the other side jack it up level and put some stands under that side. First time I dod it I was a bit nervous but it seems safe enoufgh.
