The way people try and low ball you on CL, I don't blame him for asking that. A friend just bought a car that was listed for $5K, offered 3K and got it right away. You never know what he actually wants to get for it.

i'm sorry, posting 5k high on a 2k car is insane..... Just more evidence that rednecks in OK automatically assume that b/c its a Pooorsh that it is worth mega bux....

Maybe someone in Nigeria will be "satisfied with the condition" and their "office" will send them a check.

Not that rare though... A nice runninning car can be had for 7. This one would be average if it ran, which it doesnt. The tensioner has failed, which would imply that all the valves have been toasted, and possibly a piston....

I just bought a cosmetically excellent S2, black on black, 120K miles, that had the tensioner disaster happen, for $2500. I know of another with only 59K original miles, gold on black, for sale for $6500 that needs nothing. Crack indeed.

So he replies,
If it had a top end rebuild it would be worth no less than $10,000. Its a 1990 944S2. Not a 1986 944.

and

I replied with a quote from his post,
Not currently running, but exterior and interior are in great shape. White exterior, black leather interior.
Needs hydraulic cam tensioner

His reply

Yes I took the hydraulic can tensioner off so I could replace it. So it isn't currently running.

Nothing like but the car back together after somebody who might know what he's doing takes it apart.
Smells like trouble.

Common sense is a super power.

Am I seeing a turbo car that is distinctly lacking a turbo, or is it an S2 with an 8v swap? In which case it isn't an 86....

Good question? I looked at a 1988 N/A, 1500. He had a bunch of American classic in the front of his house he was working on. In the back was the Porsche, interior was disassembled and all gaskets on the engine, siliconed. I just turned around and walked away.

+1 When I find a guy like this, I do the same thing - make them an offer so low that you know it'll offend them.

Then I pick apart their piece of trash, pointing out the problems.

This guy has a lot of balls - "I removed the tensioner so I could replace it?" Oh, sure!

Challenge him to do a compression test in front of you!

It really pisses me off when I see someone like this because the guy is obviously trying to rip-off people.
