Heater Valve (Quick Question)

My 83 944 has been blowing hot air since I purchased the car, the PO said it was the heater valve. Now that its getting nice outside, 900 degrees inside just isnt working . I looked at my valve today and found that the cable has come disconnected. I searched the archives and couldn't find an answer so thought I'd ask.

On this valve it looks like a circle with an arm sticking off one side. At the end of the arm is a square block of plastic with a small slot in it. The cable that looks similiar to the brake cable on a bicycle has an "S" shape bent into the end of it that I can figure goes into the hole on the valves leaver. Now for the hard part. Does the cable go through the slot in the plastic square or is there another peice that holds the outside of the cable to prevent it from moving allowing only the inner metal line to move?

if i remember right there is a metal clip that is attached along where the cable would lie just snap the clip over the cable and it holds the cable housing in place its hard to describe but if you want to look at one the panel where the levers are for your heater have them since that is the other end of the cable you can see how it is attached
