What do you think about these sensors?

The past week my car hasnt started a few times, with no tach bounce. The past few months, my car hasnt started a handfull of times without any tach bounce. I would just play with the connections, or take the sensor out and plug back in and the car would start. Did that the past 2 days, and nothing. I have the Bosch reference/ speed sensors for the BMW in my car now, and a new set on the way. Has anyone had any problems with these? I put the sensors in my car in November of '09. I think they should still be OK, but have a look at these pictures. Should that o be there on the reference sensor? The rear sensor is in the pictures.

Did you adjust them correctly when you intalled them? Maybe if they are off a little bit it may affect them sometimes.

Check the sensor resistance per Clarks.

Speed and Reference Sensors - Checking, Replacement, and Adjustment

I prefer sensors with the metal cap on the end instead of all black plastic that are a little less expensive. The BMW sensors should be OK.

Try cleaning the magnet off, and checking the clearance.
Also how is the wiring for the sensors?

I was just out there in the 26o weather taking the sensors out and playing with the clearance. There was no little ahrds of metal on them when I took them out. (in the past when she wouldnt start, I took them out and they had a little matal sometimes, put them in and she fired up). I adjusted the clearance by putting an old sensor in, screwing it in, and then adjusting so the sensor hit the flywheel. Tightened the bracket back together, and put a washer that came with the car on the ref. sensor and screwed the 2 sensors back in place to no avail. Back out to give it another go.
When there is no tach bounce, what can be some solutiuons to fixing it. DME, DME relais, and the sensors, anything else?

Stupid, but must ask. The engine isnt turning over. The starter needs to ge good for the tach to bounce the 1/16'', correct? I hear the fuel pump running, replaced the DME relais with my spare one and still same thing, then realized that I dont hear the starter spinning, but I think that is kinda hard to hear.

yeah because the sensor is sensing the rotations the starter is putting out.

See, I thought that was the answer. Now I just have to look for my extra starter.

But would a starter, or ignition switch breakdown like that, over a couple of weeks? And start the car intermittely?

Depending on the year of the car chips controlling the DME may have been from the era of MAcNemarra and could be failing interrmitently. Some have passed Uranus years ago and continue to control the Voyagear explorers as they tickle the heliosphere while others only existed to cause long term frustration and misfortune here on Earth.
