Angry 3000 RPM limit

I have tried everything my poor brain can think of here. '77 924, timed right, exhaust is not plugged, fuel and air filters are clean, coil and electronic control unit test good. I even changed the distributor, but I just can not get the car to "rev" above 3000 RPMs.

Does anyone have any ideas?

could be a number of problems but here are some suggestions...
is the motor running rough..?.could be compression problem
did you have the accelorator pedal floored ??....is the throttle cable set right..?.not getting full throttle cos too much slack or inlet discs(sorry dont know their technical name)inside the body aren't opening fully...sorry couldn't be more of a help .....Leadfoot

You said timing is correct... did you check cam timing or just ignition?

Other than that, check fuel pressure and coil.
