944 turbo nose driving lamps alt's

Heard that Chevy Pickup headlights from early Ninety's models will work, and much less expensive, for replacement driving lamps / aux headlamps in the 944 turbo nose. Anyone confirm that and any additional specifics would be appreciated.

Have some pics

I have some picks of an install using 1998 chevy PU headlights installed upside down, I think they came from 944online forum. Lets see if I can figure out how to post them!

Do you know if the opening for the light is big enough or does it have to get cut a bit bigger? It doesn't look like it was cut any larger. Just looks like the back was cut out. Is it possible the light would fit in without cutting out the back of the opening?

Yes, because mounting headlights upside down is definitely going to produce an acceptable beam pattern for oncoming traffic. *rolleyes*

Come on people, let's think at least a little bit here. Headlights are designed to throw light down with a sharp cutoff to prevent it from going up into oncoming drivers' eyes. What's going to happen when you mount them upside down? They're going to be blinding everyone else on the road.

What are fog lights designed to do? Throw a wide, low beam under the fog. What's going to happen if you have your "fog" lights throwing light up? You're going to get backscatter like you wouldn't believe and make your ability to see in fog worse than it was without them.

Please don't do this. Automotive headlights and fog lights have very specific beam patterns and mounting them upside-down will never leave you with an acceptable beam pattern. It's not like headlights are just big floodlamps stuck on the front of the car. There's a significant amount of optical engineering involved. By hack-jobbing some jerry-built half-ass "solution" like this into your car, you will actually be making the car worth less than it was before because the next owner will have to bear the cost of correcting what you "fixed".

I am not sure why they are being mounted upside down in the first place. But if using the low beam of the gm light and putting them in right side up it would be directed in such a way to not blind oncoming drivers or shine high enough to reflect back at the driver. I am not saying its a great idea, I am saying its interesting and would like to find out more about it. If the stock foglamp assemblies wern'te so highly priced people wouldn't try to take on projects like this.

On a side note. I plan to be the final owner of my car until I die so there shouldn't be another owner to need to worry about it.

Still would not produce an acceptable fog light beam pattern. And they would not be legal to use in lieu of the pop-up headlights because they are too low to meet FMVSS requirements.

So you'd have sub-standard fog lights and illegal driving lights. The high beams might be useful for additional driving lights tied in with the high-beams of the pop-up lights though.
