Sway bars and crash bolts for the 924S?

So autocross season is coming up soon, and my 924S has the rear mounting points for the rear bar but no bar, where can I get a stock type bar/ what ones are interchangeable and not silly expensive. Also does any one make crash bolts (camber bolt with eccentric shaft) for our cars? All responses greatly appreciated.

If you don't work something out with Magus, the 968CS 19mm (3-way adj) is only $160 from PCNA. Don't forget bushings, and check 944Ecology for the bolts.

Thanks Rasta greatly appreciated, does the 968 front bar fit too? I have a line on a set but wasn't sure if they'd fit

Mark, i don't know if the 30mm bar will fit your 924 but it does fit a Series 1 944 which is similar. You simply get the new bushings made for it and you are away...

You can get plenty of camber with the OEM adjustments. No need for special bolts on these cars.

I may have misunderstood, Doc, but I thought he was talking about the special bolts for outboard sway mounts.

The reason I have the 18mm is that I upgraded to the Lindsay 19mm 5way adjustable. It runs $116 +shipping.

PM me if you are interested in the one I have. Though I would guess that you may be able to find one locally and avoid shipping. Check your local PCA, POC, or race groups. Man...am I a lousy salesman or what!?

As to the front I am running the 26.8 and like it. I know that 30's will fit as others in my local PCA have them mounted.

Cheers!
M

I have added a rear sway bar to a 924S. You need to get several parts besides the sway bar.

Available factory rear sway bars are as follows: 14mm 16mm 18mm 19mm and 20mm. If you're sticking with the originally installed front 23mm bar you should probably stick with either the 14mm or 16mm rear sway bar which can be found very inexpensively.

Along with the bar, you'll need the following parts: (All available here at Pelican Parts)
2 rear sway bar bushings for the diameter bar you're installing
2 bushing straps pn# 113-411-333-M100
4 bushing strap lock washers pn# 900-027-015-03-OEM
4 bushing strap hex bolts pn# 900-075-085-02-OEM
2 camber eccentric bolts pn# 900-075-085-02-OEM
2 endlink bolts pn# N-010-452-4-OEM
4 endlink washers pn# 900-025-008-09-OEM
4 endlink nuts pn# N-022-149-2-OEM
2 endlinks pn#477-511-051A-OEM

All the above parts are inexpensive except for the endlinks. In fact, aftermarket endlink sets are available from Lindsay racing for less than 1/2 the price of the OEM parts. Anyhow, you can often find the rear endlinks for sale used when searching for a sway bar on the typical auction sites.

Adding a rear sway bar transforms the handling of the car so it is worth the time and effort.

Adding a bigger front swaybar is also easy, but not as straight forward as one would expect because the 924S has steel control arms and the bigger bars come from 944 cars with aluminum control arms. I had a 26.8mm front bar on my 924S along with an 18mm rear bar and it was really well balanced.

To put a 26.8mm or 30mm front bar on a 924S you need to either modify the outer bushing that is on the car or adapt the front endlink from the aluminum arm car to work with the steel arm. Also, you need 2 retaining brackets for the inner bushings pn# 944-343-731-02-M100.

If you plan to stick with your front sway bar and only add a rear sway bar I've got a 14mm rear bar you can have for $20 plus the cost of shipping.

Regards,
Rich
