Cruise Control currently Fried

Hey guys,

I've only tried to use the cruise control once in my 86 951, and it dimmed the lights and made a buzzing sound, did not hold the pedal. I assume the motor's frozen up. It never popped a fuse, though. I didn't give it much time to. The same thing happened in my 84 when I tried using cruise control, and again, I just never touched it the rest of the time I drove it.

I am very wary of cruise control on older vehicles, so I'm pondering taking it off entirely and cleaning up the engine bay. If I get a decent motor installed, should I be worried? Does anyone trust their cruise control anymore?

Also as a side question- With the engine pulled and the engine harness not installed, can I still just hook grounds to the body and safely put power to everything? (Instrument cluster, radio, etc....) Would allow me to chase down electrical while the motor is being rebuilt.

Thanks!
