I've done my fair share of reading about the subject and there doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rule about it. At what mileage should rod bearings be changed if the car is not driven hard, abused, raced, and the oil changes are done every 3K miles?

If you have good oil pressure and its not knocking, no need to rebuild to just change the bearings.

A good friend of mine has 430K on his 86 NA and the motor has never been apart. He has kept it serviced with belts and rollers, water pumps, vacuum lines and various other external parts - but never into the motor...
