Weird noises

I only post this as it may ring a few bells with others who are trying to sort odd noises in their engine bay. I posted last year after putting up with a moaning, humming sound from the engine bay which only occurred when the engine was hot and usually only around 2000 revs. At times it got real loud and would always stop if I dropped the revs off by depressing the clutch. This has been going on for 18 months. All the efforts of my porsche mechanic failed to reace the noise.

Did an oil change the other day and put in a LS154 filter ex pelican instead of the previous Mahle and occassional K & N and the noise has disappeared. Nothing in the last week. The only thing I can put the noise down to is cavitating inside the filter?? The noise always sounded like a vacuum problem of some sort or cavitation but anyone I have spoken to reckons the mahle should have been spot on for the S2.

This experience may help someone somedy. Still think my S2 is about the best car I have ever owned even as a daily driver. Now also have a 914 to play with. Now that will be an experience!
