O2 Sensor Removal
 

What I thought would be one easy quick project is turning out to be more of a pain then expected. The outside of the sensor is stripped and the wrench is useless. With vise-grips I can get the sensor to turn and back out some but then it gets tight again. Am I missing something here, doesn't this thing just screw off with a few turns? Looks like I will have to remove the front half of the exhaust and get it on the bench. Some time the smallest of jobs can be a real pain in the a--.

I would start with the penetrating fluid, PB blaster or Kroll

The tool that may work is a plumbers wrench.

john is right. some penetrating fluid...work it back and forth.

The other thing that might help is heating it as hot as possible with a mapp gas torch and then turning it while still hot. If you've gotten it to turn, then keep soaking it with Pblaster and turning it back and forth to help break up the corrosion that's binding it. Forcing it out will damage the threads in the pipe, but a tap can usually clean them up good enough to use again. BTDT.

just don't try spraying anything on if the pipe is still glowing red....this should be obvious...but in case u have a brain fart :)

I literally just did this job on Saturday. The bolt wouldn't come loose. I sprayed it with WD-40, left it over night, and the next morning, unscrewed the O2 sensor off with my hand. Not bad for an '84.
