No spark 944S
Ok i have no 12vdc on the DME relay #86. or coil. Been using Clarks garage for diagnostics. I have checked the ignition switch, working properly, #30 has power, #15 and #50 when key on. I just put the engine in, there was a alarm but not factory. The unit was removed but they left the wires, which I removed. I can start the car if i move the DME relay switch #86 manually, but runs bad, like no timing. I have a few plugs no idea what or where.
Test( i think) plug in engine compartment http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301276504.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301276562.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301276584.jpg There is no alarm relay, and no alarm plug, like the one shown on clarks, I don't think it came with one. |
I have 2 dmes and tried both. I can not seem find a dme 55 pin map for the 16v
|
Found some info in the vol 1 a about the 16v dme. I have power to it (24 to 18) but no power from relay (24 to 37)

What year and model is the chassis and engine? 1987 944S
Is the O2 sensor connected (near the speed and Reference sensor connectors)? If yes the connector in the first picture looks like the TDC sensor signal used only by Porsche shop test equipment. What option codes are on sticker in the trunk behind the carpet near the hatch lock? The wires that you removed that remained from the old Alarm system could be your start problem. Alarm systems normally interrupts the ignition system wiring. Pin 15 of the ignition switch should connect to pin 86 of the DME relay. You have a 55 pin DME/ECU connector? what year is the engine and chassis? |
It is the 1987 944S. The o2 is connected. Option codes are 944 342, Motor 40, BT2, c77, 383, 387, 458, 474, 593, 650, 983. The manual schematics show the dme relay 86 going to the compressor. I do have a feeling its related to removed alarm. Unfortunately they left me just cut wires. So pin 15 goes to the dme relay 86? Where else? I think I am going to start tracing the wiring, starting at #86.

Oh yes I have the 55 pin dme connector.

Fuel pump is working.

Well I found a Hg plug from the old wire harness and installed. I was able to start her, but running rough. I did a fuel pressure test, and she has good pressure, but the injectors are stuck open. Tomorrow I will clean the injectors and go from there.

fyi
This is just a fyi as it sounds as if you are beyond the no spark issue. I had a no start problem with a 87 944s with a factory alarm. I checked the alarm module in the passenger foot well and as I suspected ....the alarm module was full of water and rust, water from a battery box hole hidden under the battery..... On this site I found information on which two terminals on the connector to the module to jump, removed the module, jumped the terminals and the car started and ran without issue....

Thanks, I do have spark now. Car has no alarm or plug for alarm. But now I am looking for the fuel injector ballast resistor location.

If the impedance matching resistors are OK you will have 12 VDC at the injectors while cranking. I have 8V NA so i can not tell you where the resistor pack is, according to the schematic there is a 5 pin connector on the engine harness that connects to the resistor pack. Output pin 87 of the DME relay provides 12 VDC to the common side of the resistors via pin 3 of the resistor pack 5 pin connector.
The resistor pack is Item # 31 http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/PartsLookup/search.cgi?command=show_page&Catalog_Name=944_2_US A_KATALOG&Illustration=901-01&Line_Item=31 |
