Red face Is fuel pump relay my problem?

My euro 944 83 wont start. Battery is OK and starter engine is working. Everything should be in good condition (after spending 3500$ ) and I have never had any problems like this before.

I read from some older posts that fuel pump relay might cause this. I suppose that relays are those small black boxes next to fuses? If so wich one is the one that has to be changed?
And are there some other things that are known to cause this problem?

I really hope someone could help me. All my money has gone
but I still cant drive my car...

Assuming that you are getting no firing of the engine at all and starter is turning the engine OK.....

1. Are you getting spark to more than one plug? This checks a few things, that your timing belt is on and rotor and coil are working. No spark? then check spark out of the coil wire, if spark is there, then you have a rotor or timing belt issue. If no spark, it's your coil most likely.

2. After cranking over for awhile without running , you should smell gas... do you smell gas? If not... check your fuel pump and fuel pump/DME relay.

3. If you have spark and are getting fuel... the other thing needed is air. Plastic bags can get lodged in the air intake snorkle.

4. DME computer has gone... least likely to happen.

If you have a sputtering start and it quits, intake issues become involved, vacume hose, and all the wonderful sensors in that area.
