torque specifications sequence
 

HI I need help replacing valve cover out 89 s2 , my valve cover is leaking little so plan to replace the seal, but i don't have OEM manual, should be a torque specification for the longer bolts and shorter ones and a sequence? that someone can look in their manuals if have it and help me please!

Same specifications for both the short and the long bolts: 10Nm or 7.5ftlb. I did not see a specific sequence for tightening these. In cases like these, I always start in the middle and work my way out in a cross pattern.

Like was said above "Always start in the middle and work your way out in a criss cross pattern." Any time you have multiple bolts install finger tight first and then torque to specification. Go to the link below and scroll down to #21. The picture shows the sequence of how to tighten the bolts.

Neil is rigth, torque is no than 7.5 ftlb or they will break (and they are expensive to replace).____Larry the op is talking about the valve cover not the oil pan;)

Its really a simple case of feel. These bolts are brittle and exspensive. Most dont have a torque wrench that can read such a small rating...I don't. Be cautious, whats the worst that can happen, a minor oil drip on a hot manifold? If so nip it up a lil'. As a 944S2 owner your hood should/will be raised frequently - if not just to admire the engine.If a weep appears then just nip it up a tad. Really no need to worry if you are already alert. Worst thing to do is to over-tighten and snap them off/be a bad PO and leave the drama for the next owner.

I still say you can torque them to 7.5 ftpd without drama & end up with no oil leaks,And since they are expensive to replace if you snap them, this the reason the OP was advice to be carefull ,what migth be a case of feel for you migth not be for other (AND I DON'T SEE NO DRAMA IN GIVING THE RIGTH INFOS ).

Hi Earnie, I know the Gent was asking about the valve cover. The example I gave was only to see how to torque the bolts, a visual aid, same as the oil pan bolts.
