Removing main istrument clustrer on a 968
 

Sorry if this is a FAQ, but I wonder if there is a smart way of removing the main instrument cluster on the 968. I have removed the surrounding plastic frame, which was easy enough, and then the 4 screws that holds the instruments proper. After that, I am free to move the instrument cluster fairly freely, but it seems I am just not able to navigate it out of there. Am I missing something obvious, or is major surgery needed to get access?

Having done this several times on all 3 cars, it has become easier, but still takes some patience. I can take the instrument panel out without taking the steering wheel off. You are just going to have to slide it out to the side, push up on the dash slightly. Of course make sure to remove the connectors.

Thanks, that is probably the bit I am missing: You push upwards on the top of the dash opening, slightly enlarging the opening in the vertical direction? Makes sense. I assume, then, that you do not tilt the cluster when removing it.

It does seem like engaging connectors in again will require rather small hands, but maybe it is easier to see what is going on by use of a mirror and a light.

There is no secret. Remove the trim, the 4 screws and the 3 wiring connectors (taking car not to break the locking deal) Sterring wheel removed, there will be plenty of wriggle room. Problems suggest that you havn't removed the harness - marked ABC in white paint pen?
