How rare is your 944? Turns out mine is pretty rare.

Just found out today that my 944S is quite rare. Not because they only made a small amount of 944S's - but because mine is a "Canadian" version. Turns out they only made 188 of these and only in '88. Can anyone back this up or debunk this?? I'd like to know if this is true or not.

By the way - a "Canadian" version has the speedo is Kilometres ONLY, I guess that is the only difference.

Now I can say to people - "I have a Porsche AND it's one of only 187 (or less, by now) like it in the whole WORLD!!!" (he, he). Nice to be able to say that, even thought it really doesn't mean anything.

Anyone know anything about this whole "Canadian" version thing?

Boyee....

Not too many canadian version porsches.....lamborghini's ...ferraris etc......... for the obvious reason that we don't have many people who can afford these in Canada.....( small market, canada's population is about half the state of California)

But I see a ****load of Minivans, SUV's and snowmobiles...

I am lucky if I see one porsche a month where I live.....(during the winter months)

I am not sure if this "rare" factor will equate to better resale values....... but it is hard too find a half decent 944 for less that 10,000 (7,500 U.S).........or a Turbo for less that 15,000 (10,000 U.S)

I'd say mine is pretty rare. Aren't but 12000 968's, only 5000 built in 1992, less with Amazon Green paint, even less with my options and build date [mid-1991], and only ONE with my VIN! How specific you wanna get?

I don't know about yours but it sounds pretty rare!! Mine is the one pictured in: Who has the dark green turbo in Ohio. My 951 has all the equipment, color, options and special ordered interior to make it one of FEW to be built and sold here in the USA, I'd really like to know who else has one like it??? Best Jim H

I've seen only one other 944 with my same color combo of champagne/brown/Fuchs alloys w/ champagne painted centers. That was an 1984 model while mine is a 1985.5. I don't think my car has any special equipment......rear wiper, leather/leatherette seats, optional premium Blaupunkt 'Monterey' radio (soon to be replaced, it really sucks). My car had original paint until I got into an accident last week

I've got a guards red 944 in Southern California. Talk about rare, I can almost go all day around here without seeing another one, eh!

Well mine 1 of mine is rare. 1993 Porsche 968, Polar Silver with Light grey leather and 2 tone grey interior. Not many 968's were made in 1993 especially in silver.

My old '84 944 seemed to be rare. Had a cool color combo: Montego (metallic) black with platinum (gold) fuchs which were a special order item. Interior was black seats with tan carpets. Was a great car.................until I totalled it

i have a 1984 Montego Black 944 with the psychedelic "pasha" interior. from what i understand, Montego Black was cancelled because it was too expensive of a colour, so Porsche changed to black.

terrific news to anyone with a scratched 944 (not me)

I've been thinking of the same... i.e. how rare my car might be.

Supposedly, there were only 449 1990 S2s made for US and Canada.

Mine has the heated sport seats as an option. I haven't heard or seen of many 944s with these seats. I wonder just how many 944s, and more so how many S2s, and more so, how many 1990 S2s, had this option.

Does anyone know how I can find out? If I wrote or e-mailed the question to Porsche, would they be able to tell me?

Thanks.

Jim

Regarding rarity: I don't put too much stake in how rare my car is. Why?
1. Rarity usually means a scarity in parts, which means more $$$ for repairs.
2. Rarity doesn't mean exclusivity: the Yugo is a rare car: anyone want one?

That said, they made 970 944S2's in 1989. And I have the most rare color, GUARDS RED

-Zoltan.

PS: I also own a Subaru SVX, LSI without the rear spoiler, which was only made in 1992. And I have a pretty rare name, unless you live in Hungary... ...and I'm left handed... ...and my blood type is AB+ (pretty rare).

Boy, I must be special!

Disclaimer: I do not take myself too seriously, neither should you!

Yes - 188 Canadian S models. An e-mail group friend told me that, but I wanted to double check (I should have read the FAQ's better - the info is in there).

Can anyone guess at the amount of those original 188 cars made in '88 that are still on the roads?? Ballpark guess??

Hmm. 40% still being driven daily today? No real way to prove it, though, so thats a wild guess.
