MIssing o-rings on ballance shaft races? and they are new

Ok I went ahead and paid about 10+ bucks more to get the Front engine seal kit here on pelican and....

None of the Races have the O-ring inside????

And the PET does not list the o-ring at all. MY original races were shot and did replace the o-rings i though but they were leaking and i was not 100% confident i got the right size and type as the previouse ones were rock hard.

Does it not come with it or did pelican get a bad set?

Maybe it's actually not supposed to take a o-ring at all?

i'm not sure but a lot of times these retailers (i call them re-sellers) do not include items like that purposefully in order to make a few more dollars on the markup. i know 944-online is a BIG culprit of this, and that is why i stopped purchasing there.

Ok, so then im up the creek without a paddle. Only o-ring at the local hardware store that would fit was intended for plumbing and i doubt it can handle oil much less the high heat.

So i guess the build is on hold until i get those rings

i apologize for commenting without looking up the schematic, and i'm not sure you require o-rings.

it would be prudent to look up the schematic and compare it to your setup - however if there were o-rings present in the disassembly that you don't have replacements for now i would assume they are indeed required.

I have replaced the balance shafts seals twice first time was when I first purchased the car and I now have Doubt about it originally having o-rings I may have put them in there because they were missing.

If someone can confirm that would be great. It just makes sends to that it would have them to prevent oil loss

What o-ring are you talking about? There are only two o-rings.. for the rear plug and the front cap. There is no o-ring that goes around the bearing race.

Sorry been having a bad day and should have been more descriptive.

The o-ring I am talking about is inside the race/sleeve. The same groove that you can see in the picture here on pelican in the parts catalog. I will take a picture and show you what I mean.

So is everyone stumped, Maybe you engine re-builders may know. Maybe the O-ring on the Inside of the ballance shaft sleeve/collar/race does not belong?

Like i said, there is no o-ring that goes on the outside or inside of the balance shaft race.

Thank's TechnoDuck. Just wanted to double check.

Should i add some assembly lube to the inside before applying since it will be metal on metal contact on the balance shaft end or will oil do the trick you think

I just use oil, but assembly lube is fine also.

I guess the race should not have an o-ring because i had a hell of a time trying to put on the new Sleeve on the balance shaft. I had to sand down the rough spots a little and then used the old race to tap it in. Then bolted down the balance shaft gear to make sure it seated in far enough.

My original sleeves must have been shot as they came off no problem
