interior color code....sorry
1987 Porsche 944: I have a copy of the window delivery sticker in hand that shows the exterior color code of Q7Q7 and interior code of LQ. I checked under the hatch where the "real" code is and LY6Y is the ACTUAL color code for the exterior which is Nile Green Metallic. Next to that (under the hatch) is the same interior color code that is on the window sticker, i.e., LQ. Further reading in the options list of the window sticker is the verbage: Partial leather front- lt grey. I have been of the opinion, even supported by the faint greenish cast of the seats, that they are not light grey but linen. The person I bought the car from stated that the interior color was Linen. Maybe they are actually light grey. The carpeting is a greyish, very light beige. My only concern is that I plan to recover the seats and want to get the right recover kit. If LQ is not a valid color code then where do I find the REAL one? Do I go to a Porsche dealer and see if they can research their data base? This shouldn't be this complicated.

Don't know, but I would just like to comment that is a nice looking interior. Why do you want to recover the seats?

I'm in the same boat as you right now--trying to figure out what color interior I have so I can recover the seats. I have exactly the same interior; I always thought it was "linen", and I have the original sticker on my desk stating that it's "Partial Leather Front-LT Grey", code "LQ". Trips to upholstery shops could not match it to any color charts. I did have an '87 years ago with the exact same interior, and I do remember somebody mentioning that the interior was "light grey", and I thought they were crazy. If you find solid answers or a source for good covers, please let me know. Also, if you figure out how to remove yours without damaging I would definitely buy them from you, or if you replace the seats I would buy your old ones. I bought a pair of 911 3.2 seats last weekend that were "linen", but it's a few shades too dark. Who knows what color they actually are--I think grey-beige. My current 944 is Ocean Blue Metallic, but my old one was a really cool, rare, deep red that for years I have been trying to figure out the name of. Something must have gotten lost in translation with these color names...
Good luck! |

Guys,
Linen didn't come out until the '89 model year. '87 and '88 were "Grey-Beige", which is a bit more Tan in color. If you really want to match it, get some samples from Automotion and see which one matches. I did that a couple of years ago and found a perfect match to my '88 interior. Good luck, Keith

It appears that when going by the Porsche PET Seat Catalog, the seats would be NZ7 lt grey. From the looks of the catalog, TW2 Linen was not available until 1989. So if say you were to order the complete seat from Porsche you would order p/n 944.521.001.56 cc NZ7 and get a lt grey seat.

@944BlueS, what year was the old 944, I may be able to help you out on the color. I have the factory paint number catalog, broke down by year and paint code.
Also, if the seats you bought were from an 84-88 Carrera, you have lt grey seats. FYI, the "Linen" seats could almost be called white, they are extremely light....my 89NA was Glacier Blue with Linen Interior

Now that we have all of that established...
The color in Automotion that matches the '88 Grey-Beige / Light Grey color (Interior code XP) is #923, with paradoxically is called "Linen" by Automotion ![]() Here is the information on the sample: 883417 #923 Linen sample 198328 Performance Products 800-752-6268 I guess you can't trust color names from a company that can't decide if they are Automotion or Performance Products, LOL Cheers, Keith

@kd, I QUIT trusting that company completely a few years ago, when they sent the wrong part 3 times in a row. If they can't read a part number, they can't have my business.

seat color
Actually, the bottom seats are coming apart at the seams, which is typical for a 24 year old car. I sent off to a company (the name escapes me just now but they were listed in Panorama) and they sent me samples of their vinyl fabrics in that color band and out of the 6 they sent me I'm sure that one will be very near perfect. I haven't checked yet. They sell seat recover sets and I plan to recover them and the dash with a kit from Classic 9. Their dash kits are double stitched and look like a new porsche dash cover.

89-944NA: My red 944 was an '87 N/A, over what I believe to be "light grey" partial leather. It was darker than Guards Red, but not quite that very deep maroon I have seen. Does the VIN indicate the color? I may have that around somewhere. I wish I had a picture handy. I have heard it referred to as Guards Red (it's not), India Red, Kiln Red, and Brick Red. My current 944 is an '88 S; Ocean Blue Metallic over Light Grey, which I like very much. Both very rare and cool color combos. The seats I have are from an '86 Carrera and they aren't Light Grey, they are somewhere between tan and brown. They are for sale! Thanks!

The carpets are correct, but the Lloyds mats are "Grey-Beige" which is slightly off from the carpet. The seats have a bit more pinkish hue than the originals - not sure exactly what they came out of (911, 944, etc.)![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
