944 Values - up, down sideways???
 

Seeing as I'm only on my first year of 944 ownership I have a question for the long term owners who keep track the value of our 944's.
I am asking not because I view my 944 as a finical investment but I am shopping around for a 944S2 or 951S and It seems that the prices may be bottoming out. Although I am taking my time in making the purchase because I can get my Porsche fix with my '84 944 until a newer more powerful 944 comes into my life.
So I am wondering what the price fluctuations have been in like in the last ten years or so?

I read an article about a year ago explaining if the 944 series was classic yet, they said not quite yet but it will be shortly 4-8yrs and that prices should start to move upwards at about that point(but we know how crazy those europeans are), as far asI see it though, prices are still falling slowly and getting ready to level out. best regards-your crazy italian,german,hungarian-chris

The market value report in excellence magazine showed a slight increase in the value over the last couple of years. Except for the newest models.

I think only 951 values are going up....944 and 968 values are still steadily declining, I think.

Do a search about market values, I made a post about it, and posted scanned images of the market values from Excellence. Just so you know. SmileWavy

IMHO 944 prices will not increase, they may stabilise, similar to the 924 where the vehicle is worth a certain amount and never goes lower. There were just way too many 944 models built and
the current value in comparison to the repairs many of them require means more and more will be taken off the road (just like 924s).
I would agree 951 models are a different case, rices do seem to be firming for GOOD examples. However, ones needing work go for very little. If you look at what will probably happen to parts and labor costs in the next 4 - 8yrs then owning a 944 and getting a shop to do the work will be prohibitive.
We have already seen this in the pre 85/2 models, the repair market has just disappeared as the cost of repairs is no longer a viable proposition for many people. This is a similar situation to the 914 and 928 market. If you look at this in another way the prices would have to dramatically increase to cover the repairs and maintenance costs if the cars were ever to become an "investment" material.

I have noticed on West Coast Canada, 944 prices have indeed stabilized and increased a little.

In general, I think demand for older (pre-1990) Porsches of all kinds remains strong and possibly growing.

Yup..about 25 percent(25 german,50 italian) in me..its pretty funny but my roomate up here is 25% hungarian too...its wierd there arent to many of us out there....hahhaa..take care-chris
