Drive in the rain?
OK is it a wild misconception that you can not drive a Porsche in the rain (It might melt?) how many of you drive even if it is going to rain?, not counting daily drivers. just wondering, I drive mine in the rain (never had an issue) some guys I know will not drive theirs in the rain? and I see them advertised "never in the rain or snow" so how important is it to you? Do you drive your Porsche in the rain?

These cars are design for germany, they can be driven in the rain and snow.
No rain or snow is a selling point for care and wear. I would like them to prove the car was never driven in the rain. |

i keep mine in the garage because i do enjoy it more on a nice dry day. I will tke it in the rain to a show or swap meet, proud to show it and water hides a lot of imperfections. that being said, i hate all the acid rain marks that you can see when it rains especially on the hood. i hate buffing. so when its crappy out, i take the jeep. or if i have to haul big parts or garbge, or just dirty stuff, obviously the jeep gets the job. i bought it for $1K anyway...i have a lot more money in the p-car.
what it boils down to, whats it worth to you. there is no reason any car should sit forever because it was 1 of 5 ever made or even the last one out there. its a car, it should still be driven. pinto or porsche. you didn't buy it to sit and look pretty and never drive. if you were the car, would you never want to leave the garage? my 2 cents...

Drive it in the rain and likely it will pick up road dirt on the underside as right after it starts raining all of the dirt, salt, dust, etc that has accumulated on the road surface will become waterborn. So the solution is to take your garden hose and lie on your side and rinse off the underside of the car. And claim it was never driven in the rain!
Or give it a good run during a soaking rainstorm, preferably after the aforementioned dirt , salt and dust has washed away, to wash away all of the dirt on the underside! Is this a circular argument? (The 944 is galvanized, after all!) |

Well until recently, my windshield used to leak something awful. Every time it'd rain I'd end up with buckets-worth of water in my carpet. It sucked...
But I seriously doubt it was designed like that. =P That said, to the comment that it's a car, it wants to be driven not left in a garage... Would you take a 250 GTO out during a thunderstorm? Just sayin'... =D And I can tell you my 944 LOVES snow banks. Loves gettin' stuck in them, spinning out and sliding into them, etc.

I drive mine in the rain. I just hate having to clean it afterwards. I still have my old tires mounted, and they're a little bald, so it's kinda squirelly in the rain if I hit a deep puddle.
I do not drive in the snow though, since I only have summer performance tires. They don't do too well when there's even a light dusting of snow.

I drove my 928 as my only car through 3 colorado winters. I only got stuck one time and never had a real scare. We get plenty of snow here and I have plowed through well over 6" drifts. The kuhmo exsta is usually what I ran for a winter tire. Very good winter traction. It handles as well in the snow as you would expect a car built in germany to do. Still no rust. Lol drive it for what you built it for. Now that I have dropped a 325 hp engine and a 5 speed w limited slip in there there is no way that car can be driven in the snow. Its built to kill vettes now and it would be silly to drive it in bad weather. Rain is fine but in the snow she kindof just wants to do really smallcircles.
I use my cars. They are tools.

They become more fun when you hydroplane! Left from Austin driving to Dallas one time, it rained lightly most of the time, then it turned into sleet. Major pucker factor for the last 20 miles. I'm not used to driving on ice, but it did just fine.

Crap... I guess mine is pretty spoiled... she doesn't come out of the garage if there is any chance of our typical Florida summer afternoon thunderstorms...
